Down The Scope

Everything was so simple when she was looking down the scope. Yes, there were a dozen things she had to keep in her mind, every moment she needed to consider the wind, try and predict the movement of the enemy, keep tabs on her ammo, her immediate surroundings, lots of little things.

But that was just it, when she was on duty, things were quantifiable, measurable, controllable. What she needed to focus on filled her mind, and she didn't have any time to consider if, perhaps, she was on the wrong side.

But there was always return fire to give.
