You want someone dead, you hire a Killer. But if you want someone gone, you hire an Assassin. And if you can't tell the difference between those, you shouldn't mess with either.

Killers are unpredictable, whereas Assassins have codes of honor and rules to the game. These make them easy to predict but impossible to deal with, as if you break the rules, they all come after you.

But I found a way to keep at bay. Be pathetic enough to not be brag-aboutable, and offer a low enough standing contract on yourself that you're not worh anyone's precious time.
