One Man’s Weed

He’d been unable to afford even a single rose, so when he offered me a flower upon meeting for our first date, it was a dandelion he’d found growing wild on an embankment nearby.

Even as our lives slowly got more comfortable, it was still our flower. Every anniversary, every birthday, every so often, I’d get yellow dandelions, in larger and more extravagant arrangements, sure, but still the same simple flower, when it came down to it.

But none of them meant as much as that very first one.

Or the very last one he brought me in the hospital.

That Someone

I swore to never fall in love. I’d seen far too many good men and women fall into the trap of valuing one specific life over their duty to protect as many as possible. Enjoying sex, intimacy, that’s all right, but far too many lives were lost thanks to stupid value judgements about saving their woman, their man, over saving many lives.

At this point, I’m sure, you’re expecting me to say something about how I then met someone, and how that all changed.

Well, her name was Clarissa. And pushing her away, yeah, that was tough.

But I managed.

Buried In The Terms And Conditions

The Internet is full of trash, and one man’s trash is another man, or being’s, treasure.

So much hatred, so much ego, so much ‘lulz’… So easily harnessed. If you know what you’re doing.

I mean, I’ve been doing this for centuries, and I used to have to work for months, switching rapidly between the royal courts and the populace to fester these emotions on such a scale. Now I can do it with one meme. It’s amazing, such power to be funnelled into sowing evil.

And the best thing, I can admit it, and it’s just fake news, right?
