A Sign

She needed a sign, because she couldn't keep going round in circles with me. The fun wasn't worth the fights, the sex not worth the cheating.

We both knew my words were meaningless, as I meant them every time, but every time I'd stray.

So she needed a sign, something tangible to prove I'd changed. Even with her help, I couldn't think of anything, and it seemed like I was going to lose her.

So I told her that I understood, and wanted her to be happy, so she should go.

That was enough to keep her.

I didn't argue.
