Misdirection

I had spent twenty years making sure I was the only practicing magic user in North America, via persuasion, payment, and the occasional use of pyromancy if they remained stubborn.

So imagine my annoyance when I turned the TV on for a distraction while I made some potions, and on some stupid talent show I saw a ‘magician’ who was using bad stage magic to cover actual magic usage to transport his assistant, among other spells.

This would not do.

I tracked him down, and confronted him. He claimed ignorance.

I should have considered his assistant before she zapped me.
