Don't meet your heroes.
They tell you that, because most people who end up hero worshiping someone are only setting themselves up for disappointment when their hero turns out to be just another human, with their own foibles and failings and just can't live up to the perfect image in someone's head.
Now sure, that has merit, I can understand people needing to keep their heroes as perfect images. But it doesn't apply to me. I absolutely need to meet my heroes. After all, if I don't meet them, how can I kill them to prove I'm better than them?
