I had planned the night out over several weeks of effort, the hotel room, the dinner, the art gallery, the walk, the pause, the kneel, the proposal. I could even adjust on the fly, if I had to, I had backups.
But instead, she saw an inner city cinema had an old film I'd never heard of, and she insisted on seeing it. So I adjusted.
And when we got there, she met an old friend, she'd called him, and we sat together, until they headed to the bathroom together.
I pushed the ring further into my pocket and adjusted.
