The hatred between the two islands was ancient, but every generation had another reason to add to the list. There was always star crossed lovers or a business idea that would lead to an attempt to work together and end the bloodshed, and it would invariably fail and lead to more hatred and bloodshed.
Until one pair of brothers met the pair of sisters, and they fell in love, and managed to bring the two islands together.
The peace lasted for a generation, then the Twin Islands had always had an ancient and long lasting hatred of the mainland tribes.
