I’ve been the postman for this town since 1939, for fifty or
so years now, ever since I was about your age. Makes sense as to why they hired
you to replace me.
Anyway, fact is, you’ll hear from people as we make my… your
rounds how that I’ve never been late, never missed a delivery. It might be true
I’ve been lucky enough to avoid significant injury or sickness, but fact is,
I’ve missed at least one delivery.
I wasn’t about to give Mrs. Sutherland a telegram saying her
babies had died on the Normandy Beaches on her birthday…
