Birch And Rubber, To Kill Another

I could hear the creature oozing through the corridor towards me. Unless a miracle occurred, I had maybe thirty seconds.

I stared at the wand and desperately tried to review the instructions and the warnings and the explanations, hoping that some spark would remind me how to tell which end was which if the small rubber grip on one end got removed by a nosy orc.

In the end, as the creature began to pound on the door, I flipped it in the air, caught it, and used it.

Should have known removing a bit would mean it wouldn’t work.
