As the outer modules of the station were lost to the encroaching
grey nanobots, Dr. Dilano made it clear that he had a failsafe, as long as his
wife was with him.
I tried everything, but every hour was another room lost,
another good officer gone, until it was just five of us left in the engine room,
the walls slowly melting.
Dr. Dilano kissed his wife, then broke her neck, and shoved
her hand into the antilight flow.
The sight of her ring refracting the energy all around was
beautiful, for the second I saw it before I died.
