The assumption was that they’d eventually stop.
Be it due to getting what it was they wanted, or some army
getting a lucky victory, or nature halting their progress, or just running out
of food, they had to come to a stop somewhere along the way. Then we could
regroup, reform, and counter-attack.
Of course, the fact I’m saying it like this indicates that
they didn’t stop. They did, eventually, sort of, but not only were the
remaining humans scattered too wildly, we couldn’t exactly counterattack five-dimensional
evolved beings of pure thought, could we?
We tried, sure, didn’t go well.
