The issue here was that Ben and Dave were both in love.
Not with each other, that would be fine, modern times and all that.
No, instead they were in love with Susan and Suzie respectively.
That would also be fine, except that was the same woman, just at different points, when she was at work versus when she was at 'work'.
Now that could work, I suppose, except they knew each other, and they were both encouraging each other to pursue the girl of their dreams.
Things came to a head after she got the same grand gesture twice.
