Neither of them wanted it, on an intellectual level. They
both knew that it just wouldn’t, couldn’t work. So they kept their distance,
both tapping their toes to the music.
They both tried to find another partner to keep them on the
dance floor, and they found several, but none of them lasted more than a song.
Slowly, no matter how hard they tried to stop it, they were
drawn together, their hands moving into place despite knowing it was a bad
idea.
They danced, both of them waiting for the other to cut the
music off.
They never did.
