When the order to advance came down from the generals, everyone knew what was happening. The mutual siege had gone on for months, and that looked bad to royals whose understanding of warfare didn't extend much past 'moving forward = good, moving back = bad'.
To those on the ground, even those who didn't have a strong grasp of tactics and planning, this was a suicidal death push to maybe get some ground. Maybe. If it worked.
So, to a man, they all made the same choice, in that when the order to advance came down from the generals, no it didn't.
