There was this… Deal we had going.
Neither of us were particularly proud of certain aspects of
our lives, and thus by coming together as a couple, we could project an air of
normality where none should really have existed.
And in a way, having someone to help share the load of
hiding and shame and everything, it was nice, in a way.
Then it became socially acceptable to be gay, but by then we’d
gotten used to having the other around.
But once marriage equality came in, she left me high and
dry.
My desires were soon found out.
