Unprepared For Disappointment

A door slammed in the distance. Running footsteps soon followed, getting louder and louder until finally a sobbing young lady turned the corner. She didn’t notice me at first, too wrapped up in her own problems, but after a moment her wet eyes widened, and she raised a hand.

“I… I really can’t handle trouble right now…”

I chuckled, and flicked open my blade.

“I guess everyone has to get used to disappointment, don’t they?”

She shook her head, and after a moment red flames began to swirl around her head.

I laughed and flicked them away with a gesture.
