Context

Context is everything.

One man hands another a piece of paper, and after a moment, the second man draws an X on it.

Happens all the time. But the context is key.

The piece of paper has writing on it, that’s context.

The man who puts the X on it, he can’t read, important context.

This happening on a beach, that doesn’t sound important.

It being an African beach, a couple hundred years ago? Now that’s context you need to know.

An X being drawn is nothing.

A man tricked into slavery, that’s something.

Context.

That was his name, actually.
