In The Pipeline

The heat was unbearable, the kind that, no matter how often you showered or how long you sat in front of a fan, got into your very bones. It clawed at me, draining my energy, my wits, everything. I was just a pile of body parts, not really put together to do anything other than sit, stew, and gulp water down.

Of course, getting the water involved having to get up and move, and that seemed like far too much work.

But by the time I'd worked out the system of tubes, the heatwave was done.

For a few days.
