It's been the confusing fact of the universe, for a hundred years. Faster than light travel has been found and developed on a thousand worlds, hundreds of different ways. But only up to 5.729 times the speed of light. Anything faster than that, even by 0.000000001%, the craft breaks up, the field collapses.
A hard limit isn't a problem, but no being could understand why that number was the limit. It made no sense, although a few religions did incorporate it into their beliefs.
But it's the wrong number to focus on.
Going 0.000000001% faster, bad. 1000000000% faster? That works.
