Not There

Where was the crowd when he was training every morning, striving to be the very best? Not there.

Where was the crowd when he was injured, when his knee was on fire with every step, every exercise, every moment of agony as he strove back towards the field? Not there.

Where was the crowd when he almost failed to qualify for the race, when his time was only good enough when someone was disqualified? Not looking at him.

So when he succeeded, when he won, when he got gold, and the crowd was there, where was he, mentally? Not there.
