As she went into the operating room, she looked up at me.
"And if it fails, I expect roses, my room to be full of them, remember?"
I nodded.
"You've only said it a few hundred times."
"I want to make sure is all!" She called out as she was wheeled in.
I went and sat in the waiting room. Several hours later, the doctor came out and we spoke briefly.
A few hours later, she woke up, in an unfilled room.
"Oh."
It was all she said, before she drifted off again, and I started bringing in the roses.
